It’s a Black Thing

April 3rd, 2008 · 8 Comments

This judge must truly have been fed up when he decided to kick white lawyers out of his court room so that he could lecture the black defendants on their wayward lifestyles.
On CNN, the judge, Marvin Arrington, had this to say:
I came out and saw the defendants, and it was about 99.9 percent Afro-Americans, and [...]

Longer Emergency Room Waiting Time

January 20th, 2008 · No Comments

More bad news with regard to medical care. In an earlier post, I mentioned a study that showed an ethnic gap in pain killer prescriptions. This time, a study shows longer waiting times at emergency rooms–for everyone, and especially for minorities. The study involved national data of emergency room visits consisting of over [...]

Wishing everyone the best for the holiday season–whatever you celebrate; whatever you believe. It’s a time for reflection, introspection, and connection.
I felt like Jesse writing that…
Don’t forget that The Great Debaters comes tomorrow–Christmas day. Could make for a nice Christmas evening outing. I’ll be checking it out then along with about half of the  black [...]

Prosperity Preachers

December 8th, 2007 · 67 Comments

In my undergrad days in Atlanta, I remember many folks referring to two of the black megachurch preachers, Creflo Dollar (yeah, that’s his real name) and Eddie Long, as “Theft Yo’ Dollar” and “Eddie Wrong.” I always thought there was a lot of truth in those nicknames–still do. This new news gives me no [...]

Neuman is a good friend of mine. We agree on social and political issues about 50-60% of the time. But even when I disagree with him I always appreciate his persuasive, thoughtful, and provocative arguments. His comments on my last post about Sean Taylor are a great example. I decided [...]
