The Wire Finale (and some predictions)

[Update: Much to my chagrin, the final episode will not be shown on OnDemand tonight. We'll all have to wait until Sunday. Insert Senator Clay Davis' tagline here____]

The Wire, the greatest TV show ever, will be coming to an official end on Sunday. However, with OnDemand you can check it out today, which I will be doing. I hate that this moment must come. I wait all week for my fix and don’t quite know what I’ll do when I’m no longer able to get it.

I am praying that the ending will not be a disappointment like many viewed the ending of The Sopranos. I doubt it will be. It will surely be depressing, but I doubt a disappointment. I fully expect it to end with a strong declaration of how broken and backwards “the system” really is. Also, much like real life, I predict that they will leave us hanging on a lot of issues and characters. We’ll be left with a feeling of, “…and the game continues.”

Although there won’t be an “ending” for most of the characters, I do think they will try to at least foreshadow how some issues will be resolved with some of them. I’m much less certain about how this will go but I will be so brave as to make some general predictions about just a few of characters. Feel free to offer your predictions as well. I’m sure I’ll be proven wrong on most, if not all of mine but here I go anyway:

Marlo:
Marlo will return to the streets from jail to restore his rep. He’ll be roughing up everyone he can in the process but with depleted muscle he will eventually be capped himself. Maybe it will be a hit by someone from the co-op (most likely by Slim Charles), maybe it will be by Omar’s lover.

Kenard:
This is a tough one. I see two possibilities:
Possibility A: Having learned that he did in Omar, Marlo will hire him to take out Michael.
Possibility B: Kenard won’t do anything but there will be more foreshadowing of him being a future leader in the drug game.

Michael:
Other than Possibility A above, I’m not sure. I think we’ll mostly be left hanging with him. We’ll just know that he continues to be a part of the streets.

Kima:
She’ll beat herself up for ratting out McNulty and Freamon but will keep on her grind as usual. Daniels will take care of her and maybe promote her.

Freamon:
He’ll take a hit for his illegal wire tap but will not get canned. McNulty will take most of the heat for him plus he has some protection due to the evidence he’s been holding over Senator Clay Davis‘ head.

McNulty:
I can’t see him getting around being canned. If he doesn’t, he’ll be placed back on the boat like he was for season 2. It’s hard to call how Beadie will respond, but McNulty will make yet another effort to patch things up with her.

Bunk:
Nothing special. He’ll keep doing what he claims–good police work (with “soft eyes”). He’ll do what he can to help McNulty, but since Bunk warned him he won’t go too far.

Chris Partlow:
Locked down for life.

Gus and Templeton:
Gus will offer up his evidence to the bosses about Templeton making up stories. In the end, he’ll lose the fight and the bosses will side with Templeton.
